Our own Top 10 World Cup 2010 list

We’ve been closely following the buzz surrounding the biggest soccer tournament in the world (check out our post about the The Best World Cup Ads) and now we present to you our own Top 10 list for the 2010 FIFA World Cup:

1) The new soccer ball “The Jabulani” which has been designed –it seems- with the purpose of completely misleading players and just plain annoying them.

2) The promise (I’d say a threat really) from Maradona of running naked through the streets of Argentina should the country’s team win the World Cup.

3) For those fond of the male anatomy, a parade of great looking players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Fabio Cannavaro and Kaka.

All of this and more is what the World Cup brings us this year, all the way from South Africa as the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament, the most celebrated championship for the sport of soccer worldwide, kicks off today.

Here is what’s happening on the web surrounding the World Cup:

4) Google, never wanting to miss any of the action, recently launched their Street View in South Africa for Google Maps and videos portraying South Africa Stadiums in 3D. These are “360° street-level images taken by the Google cars displaying some 27 of the country’s cities and popular landmarks”.

5) Are you a British soccer fan? Then you will fancy this bit mate. It is a narration by Lego on how England made it to the 2010 World Cup.

6) The Official theme for the World Cup 2010 is called “Wavin’ Flag” by K’naan but don’t get fooled: other artists tried desperately to get their songs picked to be the official theme. Get your earplugs out, it’s time for perfectly forgettable World Cup songs:

This is called “Waka Waka” by Shakira (wait, isn’t Waka-Waka the signature line for the Fozzie Bear?)

Lesser known but no less infamous are Sign Of A Victory by R. Kelly, “Oh Africa” by Akon and Grito Mundial by Daddy Yankee.

7) If you’re a twitter geek then the list of resources grouped together at the Tweetdeck Directory will certainly become handy. The application groups topics by hashtags as well as twitter accounts using those hash tags so you can keep up to date instantly.

8 ) If you want a clearer view of everything –I mean everything- that goes on Twitter related to the World Cup you can check out Twitter’s own World Cup Portal.

9) For those who rather reminisce on old times, when soccer players were heroes and their shorts were much smaller check out this video with the Top 50 Best World Cup Goals In History:

10) Finally, these will probably become collectors items soon: Some of the best 2010 South Africa World Cup murals by Fifa featuring Messi as a “soccer Messiah” and Cristiano Ronaldo looking confident with about 5 sets of feet.
