Facebook Goes Public and Gets a Lawsuit Right After

Unless you live under a rock with no access to the real world at all you probably know that Facebook went public on the stock market just a few days ago, which catapulted quite a lot of fuzz among people: both positive and negative, but mostly negative:

During the fourth day of Facebook trading as public company brought up, believe it or not, shareholder lawsuits! Also an increase in the company’s stock price as the fallout continued from the company’s initial public offering. This is basically what happened:

Facebook Inc.’s stock climbed throughout the day from $1 to close at $32 just yesterday. Profit was very small for shareholders, especially since after the first day of trading the Facebook stock went through a very disappointing two-day decline. At this moment, stock shares are trading nearly 16 percent below its $38 IPO price.

Because of this issue, several shareholders who bought stock in the IPO went right ahead and filed lawsuits against Facebook, its executives and IPO’s lead underwriter Morgan Stanley. Apparently very delicate and important information was hidden from the public at the moment the stock was up for sale and damages are irreversible for some of the people that purchased Facebook stock.

What can we learn about this? There is absolutely no safe bet, no matter if you are doing it for fun or business. The rise and nearly fall of the stock of one of the world’s most important companies can teach us that everything in life is a chance and we should always be careful when we take them.
